• The 11th National Voters Day is being celebrated by the Election Commission.
• The day is celebrated on January 25 every year since 2011.
• According to the government, over 10 lakh locations across the country that include polling stations, sub divisions, district headquarters celebrate this day to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, which was founded on January 25, 1950.
What is the purpose of National Voters' Day?
• The purpose of the National Voters' Day is to encourage, facilitate and maximise the enrolment of new voters and bring them in the democratic system.
• Dedicated to the voters in the country, the day witnesses activities aimed at promoting the participation of voters in the electoral process.
• The theme for this year's National Voters Day is ‘Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed’.
• The celebrations will witness President Ram Nath Kovind as the chief guest of the national celebration at the Election Commission of India.
